Airtel announces “something big” as Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay becomes Wi-Fi hot spot

02-September-2014
Guests and other clients of the Berjaya Beau Vallon Bay Hotel can now enjoy 24-hour unlimited internet access on the hotel’s premises.

This follows the launch last week of the ‘Beau Vallon Bay Wi-Fi hotspot’.

The ceremony marking the internet coverage was attended by the Central Bank Governor Caroline Abel, principal secretary in the Department of Information and Communication Technology (DICT) Benjamin Choppy, the hotel’s managing director (MD) Gulab Rai and his assistant Churchill Gill, Airtel staff as well as customers’ representatives.

There seems to be nothing special about a new Wi-Fi spot as free internet access is now available in most public places such as hotels, restaurants, bars, airports, bus and train stations, ports, parks, schools, health centres etc. If this form of modern culture has not yet generally touched Seychelles we can be sure that it will not take long. In fact, Airtel is currently installing what it has called Wi-Fi hang outs around the country, with the technical help of a company named Core Technologies which specialises in the installation of telecommunication technical equipment.

The Airtel MD Amadou Dina, took the opportunity of the Beau Vallon Bay gathering to announce that “something big” is in the air and will soon be coming our way.

“A big event is coming soon not only for Seychelles but for Africa as it will be a first on the continent,” he said.

Not really revealing its real nature, Mr Dina has however added that the new development falls within the company’s policy to bring latest and best technology to Seychellois, combined with good service and affordable price.

Some sources suggest that the new and big thing is 4G!

Though we are not yet sure, our antenna will now have to be kept high for it. But we will have to keep our ears opened.

VP Faure impressed with new developments at Intelvision

20-May-2015

As part of activities organised to celebrate the first Information and Communication Technology (ICT) week here, Vice-President Danny Faure yesterday visited Intelvision operations centre at Providence, continuing his visits to businesses providing a wide range of ICT services.

Accompanied by the principal secretary for the department of ICT, Benjamin Choppy, VP Faure was welcomed at Intelvision by its chief operations officer Reza Jaro before he was led on a tour of the company to apprise of the new developments.

Mr Jaro said Intelvision is offering free Wi-Fi modem installation to all active Extravagance bouquet subscribers.
“We are also proud to say that recently we launched 18 new channels, which will bring more diversity to the customers,” he added.

He noted that the company managed to complete phase three, by connecting the whole of Ile Perseverance with Gpon Network which allows Intelvision to be able to now give FTTH (Fibre to the Home). Also in north Mahe, work is still ongoing to connect Bel Ombre and Machabée to Victoria using the Gpon Network.

VP Faure was very impressed by the new developments that Intelvision is undertaking.
“All these services and developments that Intelvision is launching are really essential to bring more entertainment to the people. We need to see more diversity in the products that Intelvision is offering. Launching the 18 new channels will surely please the customers,” he pointed out.

VP Faure assured Intelvision of the government’s support and has promised to help the company in any way they can.

“People want affordable internet, more variety of services. All the packages must be affordable and have more content to satisfy the loyal customers,” Mr Choppy said.

Intelvision is an innovative multi-service cable operator that started operations in October 2004. It provides a diverse range of broadcasting and telecommunication services in Seychelles and has revolutionised the entertainment and communication industry by capitalising on the huge capabilities of the latest broadband technology available in the market today.
Yesterday VP Faure also visited the Pure FM radio station.
