Seychelles recently won the best publicity award at the Korea World Travel Fair (Kotfa) for its proactive promotional activities for media and visitors.

Seychelles was represented at the 29th Kotfa by a Seychelles Tourism Board (STB) delegation comprising deputy chief executive Nathalie Didon; regional manager of Seychelles Tourist Office in Korea & Japan, Julie Kim; senior marketing executive Amia Jovanovic Desir, the Seychelles honorary consul general Dong Chang Jeong; and representatives from 7˚ South Lindy Cadeau and Blaisila Hoffman from Creole Travel Services.

According to reports, Seychelles’ stand was highly appreciated by the visitors of Kotfa. The stand featured photos depicting the heavenly beauty of Seychelles and what it offers and exhibited Seychelles’ artifacts, delicacies and newspapers.

Visitors also had a chance to taste the Seychelles vanilla tea and to touch the legendary coco-de-mer.

Various activities took place at the stand, including a lucky draw, the first prize of which was complementary accommodation at Banyan Tree Seychelles Resort (4 nights) as well as 49 other prizes such as lunch voucher for two at Le Domaine de L’Orangeraie, Cat Cocos tickets, Seychelles eco-friendly marathon T-shirt, posters, Seychelles travel guide book and other items which will encourage them to visit Seychelles.

The stand also held a survival O/X quiz whereby the top three winners received prizes comprising Seychelles artifacts, Seychelles travel guide book and exotic bags.

“Seychelles is highly reputed in the Korean market for higher-end honeymoon destination, we are now trying to expand the market to affordable family holiday, niche, and MICE travels while maintaining the luxury image of it. Thus, we tried to incorporate these various needs into our promotion at the Kotfa,” Ms Kim said.

The STB received attention by a number of Korean media, including MK Newspaper (No.1 daily business newspaper in Korea), Kotfa Daily, Asia News Agency, Tour Korea, The Travel Times, The Travel Information Newspaper, to name but a few.

Seychelles received the best publicity award on the last day of the fair on June 1.

Commenting on the award, Mrs Didon said: “It is with honour that I received the award on behalf of the STB. Through Kotfa, I could feel that Seychelles’ visibility has been well established and the awareness of Seychelles in the Korean market is high and that it has great potential.”

“I would like to congratulate the proactive work and efforts of STO Korea, STB staff and our loyal partners and we hope more support is given to further enhance the visibility so as to attract more Korean visitors to our shores in the years to come,” Mrs Didon added.

Kotfa is the largest and oldest consumer & trade fair in South Korea, which this year was attended by around 500 organisations from 57 countries and visited by over 120,000 people.

Seychelles is emerging rapidly in the Korean market as one of the top 3 most wanted destinations for honeymoon and family holidays followed by Cancun and Mauritius.
